Increase your self-esteem by minimizing unhealthy shame
Being more self-compassionate is one way of reducing self-critical shame.
The last posts have been about shame and 5 steps for healing the negative injuries of too much and self-critical shame, including important reflections, resources and exercises based on Compassion Focused Therapy, CFT.
Positive consequences of healing destructive shame are:
– Improved ability to practice self-care strategies such as the importance of using touch and a calming kind voice.
– Improved ability to notice, experience and express emotions to oneself and others which makes it possible to better take care of own needs and desires.
– Access to more complex and mixed feelings such as love and jealousy, pride and envy, which enriches and nuances life.
– More positive and self-validating inner voice with less destructive self-criticism, hence a more nuanced and self-supportive self-image.
– Activation of the comforting safety system when experiencing negative emotions or psychological symptoms such as anxiety.
