Increase your self-esteem by facing unhealthy shame (1 minute read)
Here, the post “Increase your self-esteem by facing unhealthy shame” continues with how you can increase your self-esteem by understanding your feelings.
Increase your self-esteem by facing unhealthy shame:
This post continues on the last posts’ different aspects of shame and what to do about it.
Shame can be an important and a healthy feeling helping us adapting to the circumstances in important social situations.
However, shame is often too self-attacking and too self-critical.
If so, shame needs to be nuanced and balanced by adding more self-compassion.
This in turn can lead to reduced despair with less psychological symptoms and increased self-esteem.
If you know shame is an all too present feeling in your life, you can try the 5 steps in the next post developed from Compassion Focused Therapy, CFT, as taught by the psychologist Paul Gilbert, to get an understanding and start to heal the negative injuries of too much and harsh shame.
More about shame and what to do about it in upcoming posts.
